I can't believe that it has been 6 years since I made a blog post. I have been drawing all that time, but I think it is about time I go back into posting some art here.
Last month I took part in inktober. It was brilliant for getting me drawing a variety of things, but I slumped when it was over. I needed a new challenge to push myself forward. To that end I designed to draw eight octopuses in all different styles. I didn't stick to those rules, most of the octopuses I created are cartoons in similar styles to each other. I found a formula that worked and tried to get better and faster and drawing that way. I have now done ten octopuses, and don't seem to be slowing down...

My first design is half octopus, half avocado. A weird sea creature for people who loves tentacles and guacamole.
Second is more silliness, half octopus and half hippopotamus. I call tis strange beast a hippoctopus. I have no idea why I drew this, I just thought it was funny.
This one is my favourite, are artists allowed a favourite? I love it because I just sat and drew it until it was done, no reference photos to help, no coffee top ups, just drawing non stop. This is a octopus playing drums.
I have a giraffe sea kayaking design that people seem to love, so I decided to use the same kayak illustration and add an octopus. A funny octopus paddling a sea kayak is the result. It would be really handy to have a few spare arms / tentacles when out on the open sea.

This one is a bit different. I was trying out some new brush tools that I purchased from retro supply. This design has a stylised opctopus and the fact that they have 9 brains and 3 hearts. One master brain and one for each tentacle. Pretty cool!
No we are getting serious, an octopus riding a road bike. This octopus is ready for the tour de France, with eight legs you don't need to cheat. A funny red octopus on a drop bar road bicycle.

I made this one as a joke, a retro stle poster advertising underpants for octopuses. However Sometimes the silliest things do sell and out of all my octopus designs this was the first one to stat selling. I am glad there are other people who have the same sense of humour as me out there.
This one was epic. I just kept drawing and adding more stuff, An octopus playing a grand piano with an angler fish providing light and a stingray drumming.
